The 1985 yearbook more closely integrates methodology with practice: socio-economic development, efficiency and intensification assessment, and scientific and technological forecasting are all examined through the lens of systems analysis. In parallel, the formalized representation of knowledge and methods for solving semi-structured problems are developed; separate sections are dedicated to environmental management, the urban system, and 'human-technology' relations. The volume concludes with a section on the methodology of science and interdisciplinary synthesis.
