# Dynamic properties

**Dynamic properties of a system** are characteristics that describe the changes in a system's state over time under the influence of internal processes and external factors. Dynamic properties determine the system's ability to function, adapt, evolve, or change through its interaction with the surrounding [environment](https://systems-analysis.info/eng/System_environment "System environment").

## General Characteristics

Dynamic properties reflect the system's behavior as a process of sequential changes in its [states](https://systems-analysis.info/eng/System_state "System state"). They allow for the analysis of the system's ability to transition between states, its stability, adaptability, reaction speed to influences, and developmental trends.

The study of dynamic properties is a necessary element of [systems analysis](https://systems-analysis.info/eng/Systems_analysis "Systems analysis") and forms the basis for modeling, forecasting, and managing systems.

## Key Dynamic Properties

In systems analysis, the following key dynamic properties of systems are distinguished:

- **Stability** — the ability of a system to maintain its integrity and recover its state after disturbances (see [System stability](https://systems-analysis.info/eng/System_stability "System stability")).
- **Adaptability** — the ability to change parameters, structure, or functions to maintain viability in changing conditions (see [System adaptability](https://systems-analysis.info/eng/System_adaptability "System adaptability")).
- **Inertia** — a measure of resistance to a change in state; the tendency of a system to maintain its existing parameters.
- **Reactivity** — the speed and nature of a system's response to external influences.
- **Development** — directed changes in structure or functions leading to a transition to new levels of organization (see [System development](https://systems-analysis.info/eng/System_development "System development")).
- **Evolutionary variability** — the ability of a system for long-term changes that ensure its adaptation to the environment.

## Static and Dynamic Aspects

The static properties of a system reflect its characteristics in a fixed state. Dynamic properties describe the processes of state changes and allow for the analysis of a system's transitions between different levels of organization.

A static description provides information about the system's structure, while a dynamic one describes its behavior over time.

## Measuring Dynamic Properties

The analysis of dynamic properties includes:

- identifying permissible transitions between states;
- determining the characteristics of the speed, direction, and stability of changes;
- assessing the system's response to different types of disturbances;
- building models of the system's dynamics.

Methods for analyzing dynamic properties include modeling, constructing phase portraits, system dynamics, and network models of interactions.

## Dynamic Properties and System Behavior

[System behavior](https://systems-analysis.info/eng/System_behavior "System behavior") represents the manifestation of a system's dynamic properties over time. Studying behavior allows for the identification of:

- how quickly the system reacts to environmental changes;
- how stably it maintains its structure;
- what its tendencies for development or degradation are.

Dynamic properties determine the types of system behavior: stable, adaptive, stochastic, evolutionary.

## Significance of Analyzing Dynamic Properties

Understanding dynamic properties is necessary for:

- forecasting the behavior of complex systems;
- building stable and adaptive architectures;
- managing the development of systems under uncertainty;
- designing systems capable of functioning in a changing environment.

The analysis of dynamic properties is significant in both engineering tasks and the study of social, biological, organizational, and technical systems.
